Les Marais Poitevin

The marshes of Poitou, in Southwest France, have been slowly drained for a thousand years. Here, there are a labyrinth of weed-choked canals, adorned with orchids and water lilies and shaded by Poplars and beeches. The customary means of transportation is a flat-bottomed boat.
