Youth on Mission

In the summer of 1944, an army of young men and women embarked on a most extraordinary mission. For four years, France had been besieged by the Nazi menace, but now her hour of liberation had come.

At the break of dawn on June 6, 1944, a great invasion force was poised off the coast of Normandy. An invading army had not crossed the unpredictable, dangerous English Channel since 1688 -- and once the massive force set out, there was no turning back. Throughout the day, young American, British and Canadian soldiers assaulted the beaches, while the French Resistance sabotaged enemy positions behind the lines.

By nightfall, more than 9,000 Allied soldiers were dead or wounded, but more than 100,000 had made it ashore, securing French coastal villages. The consequences of this action were enormous - the Battle of Normandy was won some 80 days later, Paris was liberated only days afterwards, and the Nazi forces were utterly defeated within a year.

Sixty years later, a different kind of invasion force was assembled for another extraordinary mission. Last month, over 50 young people came to France as a part of the Florida District Youth on Missions team. Under the leadership of Rev. Mark Hattabaugh, Rev. Daryle Williams and Rev. Greg Sims, this army of young people set out to impact France with their witness and their prayers, and to strike a blow against the forces of darkness.

Florida District Youth on Missions Team praying
and  ministering at the Headquarters Church in Melun

As well as ministering at our Headquarters Church in Melun, the team also targeted the city of Romilly-sur-Seine for an evangelistic effort. This city in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France was blanketed with prayer and with gospel literature. A church building is under construction in Romilly-sur-Seine, and we are looking to begin services there by the first of next year. The consequences of the effort of this Youth on Missions team will be tremendous – we believe that a spiritual victory has already been won in this city!

The team made a positive impact wherever they went, and people everywhere remarked about their look, their conduct, and their spirit. It was obvious to all that these were not your average young people. They sang, they prayed, they witnessed – and they represented well the Kingdom of God and the power of the Gospel to transform lives.

We are thankful for the efforts and sacrifices made by the Florida District and all those involved in sending the Youth on Missions team to France.  We are also thankful for your faithful support of our ministry in France.  Together, we are making a difference for the greatest of causes:  spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Yours for France,

The Schoberts
